Shorthanded Broncbusters make quick work of Northwest Tech
Garden City, KS-The news was backbreaking earlier in the day.
During Saturday's 6-0 win over Dodge City, Garden City's Rodrigo de Castro was issued a red card after a scuffle with a Conquistadors player. On Wednesday, it earned him a two-game suspension, along with teammates Sebastian Arrigada, Matheus de Silva, Marcos Antonio Sena and Saul Gody for leaving the bench. Head Coach Charles Long was also suspended, and the Broncbusters had to forfeit their victory over Dodge City.
But even being shorthanded, the Broncbusters played with an extra chip on their shoulder Wednesday night.
Marcus Fernarndez scored twice, Garden City added four goals in the final 45 minutes, and the Broncbusters ripped through Northwest Tech 7-2 at home.
"We had a little more fuel to the fire," sophomore David Amaro said. "It was a little different without coach here, but our assistant did a nice job, and the guys responded."
Fernadez being the main catalyst.
The freshman, who didn't even make the roster cut out of fall camp, scored in the 37th minute and then again in the 71st.
Amaro scored on a rebound in the 59th minute before Alexis Lopez put the finishing touches on the match with three minutes remaining.
"It wasn't a good feeling finding out that we had that win Saturday taken away from us," Amaro said. "We came out and decided we needed to score a lot of goals in this one."
And the scoring started rather quickly.
Lopez setupt Abraham de la Mora beautifully just three minutes into the match. Moments later, Felipe Andrade made it 2-0.
Lopez added his own goal 10 minutes into the second half.
With the win, Garden City improved to 8-6 overall. Northwest dropped to 2-5-2.
