Garden City blows out Seward; will host postseason game
Liberal, KS-Antonio Chol scored 15 points and was a game-high plus-17, Emmanuel Manyuon had 13 points and five assists, and Garden City topped Seward County, 75-65 Wednesday night at The Greenhouse.
The Broncbusters finished the regular season 17-13 overall and 12-12 in conference earning the No. 7 seed in the Region VI Tournament. They will host Independence in the opening round on Saturday at 4 p.m.
Boston Harker finished with 10 points and two steals, and Jace Steinmetz knocked down a pair of triples for Garden City, which shot 54 percent from the field. They were 13-of-24 (54 percent) from beyond the arc.
Loic Affoumon had 17 points on 7-of-10 shooting for Seward County, which finished with their fewest wins (3-26, 2-22) in a season since they went 0-14 in 1973-74.
Garden City led for all but four minutes on Wednesday. They closed the opening period on a 29-14 run capped off by Finn Erickson's 3-pointer with 10 seconds left to make it 35-21 at the half.
Chol, who shot just 4-of-13 from the floor, sank two free throws to give the Broncbusters their largest lead of the night, 53-28 with 14:48 remaining.
The Saints never got any closer than 10 the rest of the way.
Chol and Harker knocked down 3-pointers in the first five minutes of the second half, Manyuon canned back-to-back triples, and the Broncbusters shot 8-of-13 from deep over the final 20 minutes of the game.
Isaiah Dixon chipped in nine points in 26 minutes for the Broncbusters.
