Broncbuster men snap skid with win over Colby
Colby, KS-It took them six games to figure it out, but Brady Trenkle's team finally solved the puzzle.
Josh Fleming scored 28 points, and Garden City snapped a six-game losing streak with a 76-72 victory over Colby Saturday night at the Community Building.
Garden City went ahead on a Naradin James 3-pointer from the right wing with 1:20 left giving the Broncbusters a 70-69 lead. Moments later, Fleming nailed a mid-lane jumper to push Garden ahead 72-69. Fleming was dynamite in crunch time as the sophomore hit 4-of-5 free throws down the stretch including two with 3.1 seconds left to put the game on ice.
Colby (14-15, 10-15) trailing 74-72 with 11 seconds to go, attempted to tie it up only to have James force Shaq Athie's running shot to misfire as it went behind the backboard ending the Trojans chance to win the game.
"It not a relief with our guys that we got the win," Trinkle said. "It was time to figure it out."
Caleal Walker scored 16 points in the loss for Colby. Athie and Gabriel Gyamfi poured in 15 each.
