Broncbusters unveil 2022 football schedule
By Mike Pilosof
Garden City, KS-An early rematch of last year's semifinal playoff game plus the revitalization of the Iowa alliance highlight the Broncbusters 2022 football schedule.
Garden City opens the campaign on the road at BG Products Veterans Sports Complex against Butler on Saturday, August 27 at 7 p.m. The Broncbusters topped the Grizzlies in the Region VI semifinals in Nov. Garden City has won three of the last four in El Dorado.
"There are no off weeks in the Jayhawk Conference," Head Coach, Tom Minnick said. "This is the toughest league in the country to navigate."
Following their showdown with the Grizzlies, the brown and gold get a chance to christen the new state-of-the-art playing surface at Broncbuster Stadium on Saturday, Sept. 3 vs. Iowa Central before a road trip to Council Bluffs to face off with national runner-up Iowa Western. Two weeks later, Garden City returns to Highland, the same place where Minnick's bunch downed the Scotties in a defensive slugfest in 2021. That's followed up with a homecoming test with Dodge City and their new Head Coach, Terry Karg.
"When you look at this league as a whole, there really aren't any weak teams," Minnick explained. "Dodge City will be better. Hutch is always good. Independence will be right there as will Butler and Coffeyville."
The Broncbusters host Independence on Oct. 8 before a conference championship rematch with Hutch at home on Oct. 22.
"We are looking forward to this year because there are so many unknowns," Minnick added. "There are three new Head Coaches in the league; plus, the Iowa schools are back."
