Garden City, KS-The Garden City football team racked up more postseason recognition on Tuesday.
Linebacker Krishon Merriweather headlined a list of four Broncbusters who landed on the NJCAA All-America team.
The sophomore, who led the nation in tackles, was selected to the second team, which may go down as one of the biggest snubs of the 2019 season. The St. Louis, MO. native finished with 153 stops, including 10 for loss, a forced fumble, a fumble recovery and 3.5 sacks. He averaged an insane 13.9 tackles per game, good for tops in the country. He had six double-digit stop games including three with 20 or more (he had a season-high 21 tackles in a 43-27 come-from-behind victory at Iowa Central on Oct. 5).
Defensive end and LSU-commit Ali Gaye was named an honorable mention. The sophomore, who came to the United States as a soccer player from Gambia, transformed himself into the No. 1 JUCO defensive end in the nation. He totaled 44 stops, including 7.5 for loss, two sacks, a forced fumble and two blocked kicks. The three-star prospect had two sacks in a 28-14 win at Iowa Western on Sept. 21 and recorded eight tackles and a blocked extra point in a 20-19 heart-stopping victory over Hutchinson on Nov. 2.
Place kicker Andres Dos Santos Aires, who was also named an honorable mention, became one of the best kickers in the NJCAA ranks. He made 52-of-54 extra-point attempts while drilling 11-of-14 field goals. His most memorable moment of the 2019 campaign came in the second-to-final regular-season game, when he booted through a game-winning, 39-yard field goal to give Garden City a one-point win over the fourth-ranked Blue Dragons.
Rounding out the Broncbuster All-American quartet was offensive lineman Nymonta Doucoure, who was named an honorable mention. The sophomore helped pave the way for the nation's seventh best rushing attack. Garden City averaged 226 yards per game on the ground and scored 37 touchdowns, third most behind Hutchinson and Monroe College.
