More offensive woes as Garden City falls to Hutch in game two
Hutchinson, KS-Luis Pimentel-Guerrero dominated the first two games of this series.
The transfer from Texas A&M Corpus Christi added two more hits and three RBI to his tally, Sam Ojeda held the Broncbusters scoreless in five solid innings, and the Hutchinson grabbed game two of their four-game set with Garden City, 6-1 Wednesday afternoon at Hobart-Detter Field.
Broncbuster starter, Andrew Bowman, who dropped to 0-4 on the season, kept Garden City in the game for the most part. He allowed one run in the first (a Pimental-Guerrero sacrifice fly); worked out of a two-on, two-out jam in the second by getting Kael Babin to ground out and tossed a near-perfect third (surrendered a one-out single to Pimental-Guerrero). But he got into trouble in the fourth. He allowed a bunt single to Cooper Wesslund, who eventually came around to score on a throwing error by third basemen, Grant Ryan. He then yielded a one-out single to Jarrett Herman and a two-RBI base hit to Pimental Guerrero to made it 5-0.
Garden City's lone run came in the seventh. After Wyatt Anderson and Connor Thompson singled to begin the inning, Nick Barber bounced out to short. But with the bases loaded and two outs, reliever Cole Toureau struck out Brett Barber to retire the side.
The Blue Dragons added an insurance run in the eighth on Jarrett Herman's RBI groundout.
Ryan collected two hits for Garden City, which dropped to 2-17 overall and 0-2 in league play. Anderson, who struck out twice in the first game, finished 2-for-4 with a run scored.
