Garden City loses game four in El Dorado
El Dorado, KS-Brock Toothaker hit his second homer of the series, Micah Kobuszewski had three RBI, and Butler completed a four-game sweep of Garden City with an 11-6 victory Saturday afternoon at McDonald Stadium. The loss dropped the Broncbusters to 7-32 overall and 3-17 in conference play.
Kaden Johnson fell to 0-3 on the hill for Garden City, allowing eight runs on four hits in 3 1/3 innings.
Tyler Leachner picked up the win in relief, allowing just one run on four hits in 4 1/3.
Trying to salvage a game in the series, Garden City led 6-4 through 3 ½ innings. Conner Thompson drilled his first homer of the season in the second, and Konner Hatfield smashed an RBI double to the gap in the third. After Johnson worked a perfect bottom half, Quinn Gundelfinger blooped an RBI single to left in the fourth to give the Broncbusters a two-run cushion.
But Toothaker cranked a solo home run in the bottom of the fourth, Kobuszewski roped a pinch-hit, bases-clearing single, and the Grizzlies took the lead for good.
Cole Murrell and Josh Holmes added RBI base hits in the fifth, and Murrell singled home another run in the sixth.
Brett Barber, Hatfield, and Kaelen Bing each collected two hits for the Broncbusters. The trio combined for six of Garden City's nine hits on the day.
