Barber wins prestigious gold glove award

Garden City, KS-If you made your way out to Williams Stadium this season, there's a good chance you got to see a guy that ran more miles in the outfield than most people total in a marathon.

Freshman Jake Barber, who cemented his name in the memory of Broncbuster fans all year with his spectacular catches, won the prestigious Region VI Gold Glove award.  

"We just let Jake be Jake," Head Coach Chris Finnegan said during the season. "He just runs around and makes plays."

The Colorado-native was tremendous in his first season. He recorded the fifth most putouts on the team with 112 while registering just one error. He sported a .991 fielding percentage and even helped turn one double play.

The freshman also held his own at the plate, hitting .309 with 32 RBI. He collected 14 multi-hit games and had an team-best 11-game hitting streak during the season. Barber also finished ninth in the Jayhawk Conference with 25 stolen bases, including a season-best three vs. Hutchinson on March 28.
