Garden City, KS-Following last season, Chris Finnegan said he had to go out and get more consistent pitching.
Well, through the first nine games of 2019, that staff has been on full display.
Jordan Yates, Emmanuel Nunez, Steve Ramos, Ryan Nason and Luis Padilla combined to scattered just six hits, Colin Stone drove in two runs, and Garden City beat Lamar 6-2 Tuesday afternoon at Williams Stadium.
After falling behind in the second on Aaron Faragallah's RBI double, the Broncbusters fought back to tie it in the third when Drake Miller issued a bases-loaded walk to Corbin Truslow.
The Lopes went back on top in the fourth when Stetson Rison smoked a solo shot off of Nunez for a 2-1 advantage. Nunez bounced back nicely though, sandwiching strikeouts around a two-out single to get out of trouble.
Garden City again tied the game in the fifth on Stone's sacrifice fly to center; then grabbed the lead for good when Truslow came around to score on Arian Jimenez's error at short. Stone added another sac fly in the seventh, Jake Barber slapped an RBI single in the eighth, which was followed by Jimenez's second error of the day that allowed Barber to cross to make it 6-2.
Yates started the game for the Broncbusters, allowing one earned run on three hits in three innings. He struck out three. Nason picked up the win in relief, tossing two innings of shutout ball. He fanned one and walked one.
