Broncbuster baseball makes splash with postseason awards
Garden City, KS-Following another successful season for Garden City, the Broncbusters made another splash on the all-region team.
Third basemen Alex Nielsen was selected to the first team while catcher Ty Barclay was on the second team. Barclay was also a first-team all-conference as was Nielsen. First basemen Jesse Gonzales, short stop Ty Lightley and utility man Clint Allen were all second teamers. Alex Eskridge, Billy Clark, Conner Reynolds and Connor Burns were named honorable mentions.
Nielsen was absolutely sensational during his sophomore campaign. He hit .391, with eight homers and 56 RBI. The Omaha, Neb native closed the season by hitting safely in 12 out of his 13 games while clubbing two homers in his final three series.
Barclay was equally impressive, hitting .310, with five homers and 34 RBI.
Garden City as a team had eight guys hit .300 or better: Nielsen, Gonzales, Clark, Allen, Eskridge, Barclay, Roberson and Reynolds. The Broncbusters finished 34-24 with an opening round loss to Kansas City in the Region VI Tournament.
