Barton takes final two from Garden City
Garden City, KS-What a difference a day makes. On a cloudy afternoon with temperatures in the 40′s, Garden City's bats also cooled off following a comeback win from a 10-2 deficit in Game two Saturday, the Broncbusters failed to get a runner to third base until the second inning of game two and lost 4-0 and 4-1.
In game one Jarrett Seaton was in control on the mound for the Cougars (23-9, 7-5) notching his sixth win (6-0) and tying the league mark for most wins in a 4-0 shutout win blanking the Broncbusters for the second time this year. Garden City mustered only one extra base hit a-double from Billy Clark to leadoff the second inning and four hits in the game.
"Their game-one guy (Seaton) did a really good job," said GCCC Coach Chris Finnegan. "He kept us completely off balance. Once again we got completely off our approach and what we do. I think there was only three innings (all day) we had runners in scoring position; all three innings with two outs."
Ryder Yakel (3-2) went the distance, but failed to win his third straight start for the Broncbusters. Michael Sinks started the scoring with an RBI single, his fifth run knocked in of the weekend to make it a 1-0 game. Dawson Pomeroy later knocked in Sinks and Brady Michel added his own RBI single as Barton scored three runs on four hits in the inning.
In the fifth, Corrigan Bartlett launched his second homer of the season capping off the scoring in the 4-0 game.
Clint Allen was finally able to get Garden City on the board Sunday afternoon with an RBI double beyond the reach of center fielder Alan Clark, bringing in Rafael Villela and giving Garden City their first lead of the day. It was the only run allowed by Andrew Repp as he scattered seven hits to improve his mark to 2-1.
The lead was short-lived as Barton scored twice off Garden City starting pitcher Kendrick Catron, who allowed a pair of RBI doubles to Michael Sinks and Corrigan Bartlett, both with two outs. Bartlett added an RBI single in the seventh and following his steal of second, was brought in by Pomeroy's RBI single off Garden City reliever Michael Dzjurgot.
Taylor Langston notched his third save sliding into the team lead in that category with Pomeroy striking out four over two innings and allowing just a one out opposite field single to Clint Allen in the ninth.
Garden City (22-14, 10-6) travels to Dodge City next Saturday to begin a big four game weekend series with the Conquistadors.
