Liberal, KS-Garden City opened the conference with a 3-2 victory over Seward County in game I of the 4 game series. It took 9 innings for the Busters to earn their first conference win of the 2016 season.
Both teams were scoreless until Garden City got on the board with a sac fly by Alex Nielson that scored Conner Reynolds after he reached base on a walk. The game went into extra innings when Seward County scored on a passed ball.
Either team failed to score in the eighth inning. In the top of the ninth Alex Nielson singled and advanced to second on an error by Seward County Pitcher Johnathon Castilo. Castilo's error allowed Aeneas Roberson to reach base safely. Both Nielson and Roberson advanced to third and second on a passed ball.
Mason Brown responded with a two out, two RBI single giving Garden City a 3-1 lead. The Saints picked up one run in the bottom of the ninth but it was not enough as Garden City would go onto win 3-2. Garden City with the win improved to 15-3.
Seward County defeated Garden City 10-5 to even day one of the series 1-1. The Busters jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first and led 5-4 after the 4th inning. Seward County went ahead 6-5 after the 5th and added four more runs in the bottom of the sixth to go ahead 10-5 and the Busters would eventually suffer their first loss in conference play.
Garden City was led by Patrick Mixon. Mixon went 2-3 from the dish and posted 2 RBI's. Brooks Benson went 3-4 and scored one run while Mason Brown scored one run and went 2-4.
The series continues tomorrow first pitch of the twin bill starts at 1:00PM.
