Rattlers Hold Off Busters 4-2
La Junta, CO- The Broncbusters strand nine baserunners as they lose to Otero 4-2 in Wednesday's non-conference game. Freshman Dillan Feuerstein received the nod, and was touched up for four earned runs on four hits and two walks. After walking the first two batters of the game, Otero's Jesus Chavez tripled to right center field to drive in two. Miguel Othon doubled in Chavez, and later scored on a base hit by Turner Kinkaid to cap the scoring at four.
The lackluster offense of the Broncbusters failed to get anything going until the fourth inning after leaving the bases loaded in the top of the first. Kyle Lopez and Patrick Mixon walked in back-to-back at-bats. Jesse Gonzales singled in Lopez to get the scoring started for the Broncbusters. With runners at first and third and one out, Otero's starter Troy Schreivoleg worked his way out of another jam inducing a strike out and ground out to leave the score at 4-1.
Schreivoleg was strong in 6.1 innings, allowing two runs on four hits while striking out six. A leadoff walk to pinch-hitter Sean Kennedy was followed up by a single through the four-hole by CJ Krainock in the top of the seventh. Alex Nielsen's sacrifice bunt turned the line-up over chasing Schreivoleg from the game. Aeneas Roberson's fielder's choice groundout to third would be the final scoring for the Broncbusters, as Krainock scored on the play.
Kennedy doubled with one out in the top of the ninth, and Krainock reached base on a hit by pitch. Roberson drew a two-out walk to load the bases for Rafael Villela. Villela popped up to the third baseman to end the contest.
The Broncbusters move to 10-2. The team will load up for a road weekend in Roswell, New Mexico. They will play New Mexico Military Institute in a four-game set.
